This postal cover was issued to commemorate the launching of the EARL V. JOHNSON, 24 November 1943. A brief biography of the ship's namesake, Lt. (jg) Earl V. Johnson, is at the right. He was killed in action during the Battle of Coral Sea, 9 May 1942. The ship was sponsored by his mother. A 5 cent stamp of the Greek flag is at the top right. This was addressed to CPL C. T. Viebey of Los Angeles, CA. |
