Hank Shoemaker to Dorothy Shoemaker. August 1952. "To My Dearest Wife Well honey I am still waiting for a letter from you, I know it is hard for you to write, but if you get the time and feel good enough drop me a line. Well I put in for my mustering out pay today. I will get it in a month or so. As soon as I get it I will send you some money. How do you like the picture of ships. I mean the picture on the paper I work on the boats. The one with the line on it is all mome ok [sic]. The first week end we are in Phila I got the weekend duty. But the weekend after that I will be up to see you ok. We leave here the 27th of this month and get to Phila the fourth of next month. Then the ship is going to play around on it's way up. Well honey I sure wish you were with me, but after my sea duty is up we will go back to Florida for duty ok. Well I guess I will close for now. With all my love. Your loving husband Herb." |
