  4. XX.3.122 - "Freighter Sinks, Crew Rescued"

    This clipped article comes from an unknown publication. The crew of the Chinese freighter, HWA TUNG, were rescued by the FIEBERLING and the cruiser USS ATLANTA (CL-104) which had been standing by after receiving an SOS signal from the damaged ship. The "San Pedro News-Pilot" of December 14, 1946 provides further information. The ship was abandoned by its crew after the forward two holds had taken on water.
