Note the two sailors working on their tan on the fantail. An unknown ship is tied up to her starboard side and a gangway as been installed.     From the Ted Stone collection. Ted traveled the world photographing naval ships. Some of the only photographs of WWII destroyer escorts in mothball are credited to him. Here, the EARL. K.   13. 2025.6.9 - Depth charge explosion

    An explosion is seen off ATHERTON's port quarter, believed to be from a depth charge. It's unknown if this was taken during a training drill or an attack on a U-boat, possibly U-853. Depth charges are visible both in the port fantail racks and K-gun racks. A 20mm machine gun covered in canvas is pointed off the port side. A garbage can, wooden crate, and 20mm ammunition canister are also visible.
